The Little Chapel is a breathtaking venue for weddings & functions in Central Christchurch. We opened our doors in March 2019 with a dream of creating beautiful, bespoke weddings. In return, these weddings will help children & families in our community. The Little Chapel is the social enterprise branch of The Home & Family Charitable Trust. It's a place for the public to host beautiful events while enabling Home & Family to continue delivering their essential services.

The Little Chapel was built in the late 19th century. It was designed by the renowned architect Benjamin Mountfort, who was one of the country's most prominent architects. Mountfort was the first official Provincial Architect of developing the Canterbury region. He was also responsible for many notable buildings including the Canterbury Museum and The Canterbury Provincial Chambers.
The chapel features a wooden altar, sculpted by Frederick Gurnsey, who carved the Bridge of Remembrance. The Litttle Chapel's stained glass windows were created by Veronica Whall.
Our wedding chapel is now non-denominational. This means we welcome civil unions, and you're free to arrange your own celebrant. You can personalise your ceremony to your heart's content.
The Little Chapel is perfect for smaller more intimate wedding ceremonies and receptions.
We were able to create our website and logo thanks to generous funding from the Rātā Foundation.
Our goal at The Little Chapel is to enable The Home & Family Society to become a more self-sustainable organisation. We want to allow them to continue to provide their crucial services to people in need in our community.
With the support of wonderful funders like Rātā Foundation, we are a great deal closer to realising this goal.
